In-Person Event: La Sirena, New York City, March 2018 for bareMinerals
When I first started event planning, back in 2007, I used to rip pages from magazines and keep them in books for future ideas. This was before the days of Pinterest. One idea I always had in my arsenal was this lattice wall with greenery woven throughout. I was never sure where I would use it, but I knew it was destined to happen. Then bareMinerals came to us for our first event with them in 2018. It was an event that dreams are made of - at least for me.
Picture yourself surrounded by nature. You are in a lush forest and the roar of the campfire can be heard. Delicious cocktails are sipped out of camping style mugs. You’ve got it now, this is what I like to call GLAMPING. Here’s how to upgrade your weekend festivities and go glamping in style. Check out the video above for all the magic that was Glamping Under the Stars.
PLATE:
WHY THESE: These are spot on for the glamping plate and dress up an everyday white plate set.
DIMENSIONS: 11"diam.
TIP: These are dishwasher and microwave safe - woohoo.
LANTERN:
WHY THESE: I've used these over and over again as a staple in not only centerpiece designs, but also in home decor. I add real flame candles to give it a more homey feel.
DIMENSIONS: 14.5" (Including top handle)
TIP: These will get dusty easily, so clean with warm water.
WHY THESE: The original lantern was a very elegant camping vibe, so they are a little less modern than styles I would typically do. This option from Amazon has cleaner lines.
DIMENSIONS:
Small: 9" W x 9" D x 15" H
Large: 11" W x 11" D x 19" H
TIP: These are great if you are taking your glamping trip outside.
GREENERY:
This greenery application I have replicated dozens of times. Fresh is best, but for frequent use, a faux version is great. Here are some options I found on Amazon.
MAKE IT PERSONAL:
I love calligraphy and always tap into the amazing Juliana from Ink & Nibs for her amazing skills. She even did my wedding. Pro Tip: We always have her on site with extra place cards and menus to make sure that no guest goes without a customized item.
If you aren't a calligrapher and don't want to go down this road, you can always use your Cricut Maker to customize with Vinyl. I got the wooden slices on Amazon, and they worked out great.
CREATE YOUR SEATING AREA (SET UP GLAMP):
It’s time to set up camp. You can opt for an outdoor bonfire or an indoor fireplace setting. Now that we have our fire, lets surround it with chairs, pillows, blankets, and anything that oozes campfire vibes. Pro-tip: we love the textures of soft cotton and anything fuzzy to make that fireplace extra cozy. Now our glamping scene is set.
WHY THESE: These are comfortable, stylish, and can be moved very easily to accommodate your space.
DIMENSIONS: 21"D x 21"W x 13"H
TIP: These come in so many colors and styles to match your decor. I used the brown version to keep everything very neutral. Don't be afraid to play with color and have some fun. There are no rules in glamping.
WHY THESE: This is a great example of affordable luxury. We rent these pieces, but you can add this style to any part of your home without a huge cost.
DIMENSIONS: 36"x 33" x 27"
TIP: Keep these away from water and the sun to keep them damage free.
TOAST THE S’MORES
S’mores are non-negotiable here. Sit around the fire and roast marshmallows for a traditional campfire-worthy treat. Don't have access to a firepit? You can also create these delicious s’more bites for your guests with a blow torch (that's what we did for this event). You have our word that these are as delicious as they look.
PLAY THE MUSIC
Music is a must. It’s as easy as a portable speaker or in-home sound system. A perk of hosting at home is easy electricity access. We suggest turning on our Fireside Chat playlist on the East of Ellie Spotify. It’s full of smooth, Americana inspired sounds that set the mood perfectly for all the warm and fuzzies while glamping.
WARM-UP WITH A COCKTAIL
Keep the libations and conversations flowing with a signature cocktail. I called my favorite “The Happy Glamper” using this recipe from Screw It.
DO THE CRAFTS
It’s time to get crafty – camp style. It’s hard to pick a favorite here. I suggest decorating your favorite bandana with patches and accessories that match your glamping style. Tie-dye can be super fun and really shows off that going to camp look. This is your opportunity to let your creativity go wild and take full advantage of mindless and fun outdoor activities.
